Sports Tech HQ Helps Local Startups Score a Home Run with the Indianapolis Indians
Two promising companies from Sports Tech HQ’s Collective, EatWatchPlay and RefReps, had the opportunity to step into the spotlight at Indianapolis Indians games. Thanks to a partnership with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), these local innovators showcased their products to a crowd of sports fans.
The IEDC’s Small Business Spotlight initiative provided EatWatchPlay and RefReps with prime advertising space around Victory Field and valuable media exposure.
“The Indianapolis Indians are always looking for ways to push the boundaries of fan engagement,” says Joel Zawacki, Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer at Indianapolis Indians. “By partnering with the IEDC and featuring startups from the Sports Tech HQ Collective, we’re bringing new technology to the ballpark and creating a more interactive and exciting experience for our fans.”
EatWatchPlay, a free-to-play predictions app, turned the game into an interactive experience for fans. By predicting the outcomes of sports and TV shows, fans could win freebies like concession vouchers and discounted tickets. Founder Rory Billing led activations in the main pavilion behind the center field.
RefReps brought a unique twist to the game with their “be the ref” kiosk. Fans got to step into the umpire’s shoes and see if they had what it takes to make the right calls on real-time baseball replays. Founder Kyle Armstrong led the activation and was interviewed in the broadcast booth. A story about the partnerships and RefRep’s mission also landed on WTHR.
The Indianapolis Indians are proud to partner with the IEDC to support local businesses and contribute to the community’s economic growth. By hosting the Small Business Spotlight, the team provides startups with an opportunity to gain exposure and connect with potential customers – especially in sports.
“Indiana is committed to fostering a thriving small business environment. Initiatives like the Small Business Spotlight provide invaluable opportunities for local entrepreneurs to connect with the community, showcase their products and services, and ultimately grow their businesses,” says David Watkins, Senior Vice President, Entrepreneurship & Small Business at the IEDC. “These partnerships not only support our economy but strengthen the fabric of our communities.”
